Rant at the Devil

04/09/2003 - 9:04 AM

A little rant to clear my head...

Daylight savings time needs to go. I understand that back in the day, before electricity was commonly available, that daylight meant more to farming and all of that, but it's an obsolete concept now. Just like the Electoral College, but DON'T get me going on that one, either. "Fake election...fake presidency..." That's a bit harsh, but it hits a little closer to home than I'd like to admit.

Does Bush look unbeatable at this point for 2004? Sure looking like it, doesn't it? And the right-wing idealogists are just LOVING the current political landscape at the moment. The term "liberal" is right up there with phrases like "flag burning", "seal clubbing" and "child molester". In my fantasy world, though, the moderates and liberals in this country realize that stifling free speech is unacceptable, and rebel against the forces that have been holding them back. Although I think it's clear who I am backing for President (see the bottom of the page), I really respect Sen. Kerry's vehement rebuttal of the Republicans who tried to question his patriotism simply because he used the phrase "regime change" to describe voting Bush out of office. In my opinion, it was an unfortunate choice of words, but the McCarthy-like tactics for painting him as unpatriotic make me ill. When will this stop? I'm afraid it won't stop until there IS a regime change.

And on a lighter note, I want to share a few thoughts that an ex-roommate passed on to me yesterday. They're meant to be humorous, but a few of them hit pretty close to the mark. Enjoy!

I've learned that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is stalk them and hope they panic and give in.

I've learned that no matter how much I care, some people are just assholes.

I've learned that it takes years to build up trust, and it only takes suspicion, not proof, to destroy it.

I've learned that you can get by on charm for about fifteen minutes. After that, you'd better have a big weenie or huge boobs.

I've learned that you shouldn't compare yourself to others - they are more screwed up than you think.

I've learned that you can keep puking long after you think you're finished.

I've learned that we are responsible for what we do, unless we are celebrities.

I've learned that regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades, and there had better be a lot of money to take its place.

I've learned that the people you care most about in life are taken from you too soon, and all the less important ones just never go away.

Ain't it the truth?
